Founded in 1889 as the Colorado State Normal School after Greeley residents raised $11,175 to build its first building, the school was renamed twice more before becoming the University of Northern Colorado in 1970. On the third floor of Wiebking Hall, one of its dormitories, students describe a presence they call Edith — said locally to have been a resident assistant driven to take her own life in the attic after other students tormented and pranked her; no record of her exists. The same story, and the sound of marbles rolling through the vents with none ever found, is also told of nearby Wilson Hall. Residents report the television changing channels, lights flipping, and furniture moving overnight.
Wiebking Hall is a residence hall for first-year students at UNC. It is not open to the public.
