Franklin Avery, the surveyor who laid out Fort Collins's original street grid, built this house for his family in 1879. It was a private home for generations before the local historical society began offering public tours. Staff describe an oppressive feeling in an upstairs bedroom, which local telling attributes to an unhappy child, and a sense of presence in the front parlor.
Historic 1879 house museum run by Poudre Landmarks Foundation. Guided tours run on weekend afternoons, plus special events. Admission is charged.
