Tomboy was a gold and silver camp at 11,500 feet in Savage Basin, with a school, store, stables, miners' cabins, and even a YMCA and tennis courts. Its population reached roughly 900 to 1,000 before the ore ran out in the late 1920s. Brick foundations, timbers and a few weathered buildings remain along a demanding four-wheel-drive road.
High-clearance or guided trips from Telluride, or a long hike; snow closes it for much of the year.
