The Beaumont Hotel opened in Ouray on December 15, 1886, built for $75,000 by the Ouray Real Estate and Building Association. It has hosted Theodore Roosevelt, Herbert Hoover, King Leopold of Belgium, Chipeta (widow of the Ute leader Ouray), and Sarah Bernhardt. Local legend holds that a bride was murdered by her husband here on her wedding night, and that on the anniversary of her death she can be seen alone, retracing her final movements, her killer never visible — though no record of the murder has been found. Guests report doors that lock and unlock on their own throughout the hotel.
Operating adults-only boutique hotel and spa in the 1886 building. Interiors are for guests, though the lobby and restaurant are open to visitors.
