During a 1993 production of Henry IV, Part I at this Elizabethan-style playhouse, the actor playing Falstaff came rushing out of the men's dressing room badly shaken, saying he'd seen a small boy in a blue velvet suit, styled like children's clothing from the 1800s, standing beside his table. Staff and performers have reported the boy on other occasions since, along with a woman in Elizabethan dress said to move things around the women's dressing room, an old man glimpsed occasionally around the building, and a shadowy figure on the catwalk above the stage. One room on the theater's top floor is avoided by sensitive staff entirely, who describe it as cold and thick with a bad feeling.
