The Seelbach Hotel opened in 1905 and is one of Louisville's best-known luxury hotels. Its ghost is the Lady in Blue, a woman in a long blue dress with dark hair who has been seen on the eighth floor and the mezzanine. The story is usually tied to Patricia Wilson, who was found dead in an elevator shaft in July 1936, though accounts disagree about whether she jumped or fell and whether she is the ghost. Hotel historian Larry Johnson, a bellman since 1982, wrote about the hotel's history, and sightings were first reported in 1987. The hotel is a working business and treats the story with a light touch.
Working hotel in downtown Louisville with a lobby, restaurants and a bar open to the public. The Lady in Blue is said to appear on the eighth floor and mezzanine, so a drink in the lobby is the easy way to look around.
