The Shreveport Municipal Memorial Auditorium opened in 1929 and is best known as the home of the Louisiana Hayride, the radio show that helped launch Elvis Presley and Hank Williams. It is commonly named among the most haunted buildings in north Louisiana, and the Shreveport-Bossier visitors bureau runs haunted tours there. SyFy's Ghost Hunters and Discovery's Ghost Lab have both investigated. The best-known spirit is called Sarge, said to play with women's hair, ruffling short hair upward and stroking long hair, and a young girl is said to open and close doors on the arena floor, once caught on video during a tour. Other visitors report figures seen in photographs in otherwise empty seats.
City-owned auditorium used for events; it is not open for drop-in visits. Haunted tours are sold through the Shreveport-Bossier visitors bureau, typically on Friday evenings in October, so check its site.
