The Shelburne Museum, founded in 1947 by Electra Havemeyer Webb, is a campus of historic New England buildings moved to Shelburne. Its Dutton House, built in 1782 by Salmon Dutton in Cavendish and moved here in 1950, had a haunted reputation before the move. Staff and visitors tell of an elderly man in a white shirt, a child's cries, cold breezes and a charged atmosphere upstairs. The museum does not promote the stories, and no one is sure who the spirits might be.
Seasonal museum with admission; check shelburnemuseum.org for hours and the season.
