John W. Weatherford built this hall in 1911 as the Majestic Opera House. Heavy snow brought the roof down in 1915, and it reopened in 1917 as the Orpheum; it runs today as a music and film venue. Staff describe an electrical, prickling sensation in the men's room, and one night after closing the toilets began flushing and the taps running with nobody there. A dark figure is reported in and around the old projection booth, and a woman in white on the balcony. The story usually attached to the projection booth — an employee who took his own life there in 1917 — has no record behind it, and its dates sit awkwardly against the building's own timeline.
The Orpheum operates as a working movie and live-music venue; check its event calendar for public screenings and shows.
