The Hotel Provincial in the French Quarter has been owned and run by the Dupepe family since 1961 and is spread across several restored nineteenth-century buildings. The site held a military hospital from the 1700s, and the buildings served as a hospital again during the Civil War, which is the root of its ghost stories. Louisiana's state tourism site lists the hotel among the haunted places of New Orleans, describing wounded soldiers and a young woman thought to have cared for the sick. Guests have reported a sense of presence, unexplained voices and a shaking bed, most often in the building that served as the hospital. The hotel is a working business, and the stories are guest and staff accounts rather than investigations.
Working hotel at 1024 Chartres Street open to overnight guests; book through the hotel. The courtyards are for guests, so the easiest way in is a reservation.
