Hope Furnace, in Lake Hope State Park in Vinton County, is an iron furnace built in the 1850s that smelted ore until the late 1800s. TourismOhio's haunted list tells of a night watchman who fell into the molten iron while using the furnace as a shortcut, and whose lantern-carrying ghost is said to make his evening rounds again. Lake Hope State Park is also home to the nearby Moonville Tunnel.
Free state park open daily; the furnace ruins are along the Furnace Trail near the lake. Stay on trails and do not climb the stonework.
