Opened in 1925, this 500-room hotel was a favorite getaway for Al Capone and his associates escaping Chicago winters and the heat of the law; he's said to have spent time on the second floor, where several sex workers were reportedly strangled to death in Room 202. The building has since served as a hospital and a Bible college before reopening as a hotel following a renovation in the late 1990s. The seventh floor in particular has become known for unexplained orbs, disembodied voices, and cold spots, with guests and staff on both the second and seventh floors reporting regular encounters.
The 1925 hotel has been vacant and fenced off after being declared unsafe, and a redevelopment is proposed. It is not open to the public. Its exterior can be seen from the public streets and boardwalk; please do not enter the fenced property.
