The Stone Tower in Hills & Dales MetroPark, also called the Witch's Tower and Frankenstein's Castle, was built in 1941 by National Youth Administration workers from stone salvaged from condemned Dayton buildings and overlooks the Community Golf Course. TourismOhio lists it as haunted. The documented history is that on May 17, 1967, a 16-year-old girl sheltering inside during a storm was killed by lightning, and the tower was bricked up soon afterward. Local legends, many of them exaggerated, speak of her figure and a ghostly couple seen near the tower. Her death was real, so the stories are told here with care.
The tower itself is sealed and may not be entered. It can be seen from the park trails in daylight; the pin marks the tower's approximate location in the park.
