Heceta Head Lighthouse, completed in 1894 on a headland north of Florence, is among the most photographed lighthouses on the Oregon coast. Travel Oregon, PDX Monthly and Fox News have all retold its ghost: the Gray Lady, nicknamed Rue, said to be the grieving mother of a child who fell from the cliffs and to be seen in the old keepers' quarters. Guests at the keepers' house bed and breakfast report the smell of flowers or perfume and impressions on the bed. Ghost Files, the YouTube series with Ryan Bergara and Shane Madej, spent the night there for "Sleeping At Oregon's Most Haunted Lighthouse" (2026).
The grounds and trail are open daily; lighthouse tours and the keepers' house bed and breakfast are seasonal, so check the U.S. Forest Service or Oregon Parks for tours.
