Fairlawn Mansion in Superior was built around 1890 for the lumber baron Martin Pattison and later served as a children's home before becoming a museum. Local legend says the house is haunted by a former housekeeper who was murdered by her husband and who appears to guide lost visitors on tours, and visitors have also reported two little girls in the basement. The mansion offers seasonal flashlight and Superstition tours, and the Duluth Paranormal Society has run investigation tours inside. The tales are lore passed down through the house, which is mainly a museum of the region's history.
Open for tours seasonally; flashlight tours, Superstition tours and paranormal investigation tours run on select dates. Check Fairlawn's site for hours and tickets.
