The Pearson Light is one of several documented "spooklight" legends found along rural railroad routes across southern Georgia, in the same tradition as North Carolina's Maco Light and Arkansas's Gurdon Light. Local legend holds that a poor traveler carrying a lantern was struck and killed by a train along these dirt roads, leaving only his head behind, and that the light travelers see following and hovering over their cars at night is what remains of him still searching the tracks.
The light is said to appear along a dirt road beside GA-122 where a railroad once ran. It is a public road with private land around it, so stay on the road and off private property.
