Built in 1917 after fire destroyed an earlier building on the site, the Cuban Club was the social heart of Ybor City's Cuban immigrant community, with a theater, bowling alley, pharmacy, ballroom, and cantina; membership topped 5,000 by the late 1920s. Named by the Travel Channel as one of the nation's most haunted places, visitors and staff most often report an apparition of a boy bouncing a ball near the old cantina, where a swimming pool once stood — many believe he drowned there. Countless other, less specific presences are said to linger throughout the building's gleaming ballrooms and basement.
Historic building that operates as an events venue, with a theater, so it is open for ticketed events and tours rather than walk-in visits. The club's own events calendar is the best way in; Ybor City walking and ghost tours also pass by.
