Carnton Plantation in Franklin was the home of the McGavock family and became a field hospital after the Battle of Franklin on November 30, 1864, when surgeons worked through the night and the floors were soaked with blood. Nearly 1,500 Confederate soldiers are buried in the cemetery beside the house. Staff and visitors tell of footsteps, voices and apparitions, and Ghost Adventures filmed a lockdown at Carnton in 2014. The site offers daytime history tours and evening paranormal tours, a place where the dead of one of the war's bloodiest battles are remembered.
Open for guided tours with admission; evening paranormal tours run on select dates. Check Carnton's site for hours and tickets.
