Built in 1738 and also known as the Dr. Finney House, the Amstel House has stood through disease outbreaks, a change of national control, and generations of prominent New Castle families. It's now run as a museum by the New Castle Historical Society. For generations, visitors and guides have reported a woman in a blue dress glimpsed in the windows — known locally as the Lady in Blue, her identity never confirmed — and on the third floor, a presence that opens and closes windows and doors and moves small objects.
House museum run by the New Castle Historical Society. Guided tours run on weekends from April through December; buy tickets at the New Castle Visitor Center at the Arsenal and allow about 45 minutes. Check newcastlehistory.org for current dates.
