The building that houses the Alliance Theatre began as the Charter Hotel in 1903 and became a movie theater in 1938. Nebraska tourism and the state historical society tell of a friendly ghost, often called Mary, linked to an actress said to have died on stage when a chandelier fell. Employees report shadowy figures, footsteps running down the aisles, a woman's voice practicing lines in the walls and furniture that moves. The owner has called the ghost friendly.
