The Black Hills Playhouse, in the pines of Custer State Park, is a summer theater that has staged productions since 1946 in a complex built partly by Civilian Conservation Corps workers. Travel South Dakota lists it among the state's haunted places: the spirit, said to be a former CCC worker or the founder Warren "Doc" Lee, leaves out costumes for the actors, and company members tell of costumes appearing on the table overnight in the costume room.
Summer-season theater (about June through August); a park entrance license is needed for Custer State Park.
