First United Methodist Church of Evanston is one of several Methodist churches with a documented ghost story passed down among congregants: a man in a black business suit seen walking the side aisle of the sanctuary, moving from behind one pillar to the next. When people look behind the pillar he's ducked behind, no one is ever there, and there's no door or window he could have used to leave unseen. His identity has never been determined.
Working congregation. Visitors are welcome at worship, and the church offers building tours at set times; check its website before going and don't enter outside open hours.
