The American Club in Kohler was built in 1918 to house immigrant workers for the Kohler Company and is now a luxury resort and Historic Hotel of America. Stories center on the old East Wing, where a young woman in a blue hat is said to stand by the fireplace of Room 209, the Washington Room, after taking her life in grief over her husband's death in an industrial accident. One witness reported meeting a silent man in a dirty flannel shirt and corduroys in a back hallway who seemed not to see them. These stories are hotel lore, and the resort operates today as a full-service destination.
An operating resort hotel with restaurants; rooms can be booked and dining is open to visitors.
