Nassau Hall, completed in 1756, is the oldest building at Princeton University and served as a barracks and hospital and was fought over in the Battle of Princeton in 1777. It is the best-known setting of Princeton's ghost stories. According to campus lore, Aaron Burr Sr., the college's second president, haunts his old office in Nassau Hall to check on the school, and his son, Vice President Aaron Burr Jr., is said to wander the campus and the town graveyard. Other Princeton stories include a Hessian soldier said to appear on Edgehill Street each Christmas Eve. The university's alumni magazine presents these as lore rather than verified events.
Working administrative building at the center of the campus; the campus grounds and the front are open to walk, and the university offers tours. Interior access is limited.
