At Mount Thabor Cemetery, visitors report orbs and green mist photographed among the graves, voices laughing, singing, or mumbling, and unusually cold pockets of air detected near the baby lot. Mount Thabor Cemetery began in 1846 when McHenry County settlers Owen and Catherine Dyer deeded an acre of their land to the Catholic Church for a dollar; a small log cabin on the grounds, known as the "Little Church in the Bush," served as its chapel. Most burials here predate 1890, though the cemetery's north end, known as the baby lot, holds roughly thirteen infants who died within a two-year span in the 1960s. Vandals smashed many of the century-old headstones in 1965.
Historic cemetery that is no longer used for new burials but is still cared for by the Crystal Lake cemetery association. Visit during daylight and treat the graves with respect.
