Atlanta architect William Augustus Edwards designed this Beaux Arts courthouse, built in 1913. Local account holds that a prisoner once tried to break out of the second-floor jail, and that a bailiff, meaning only to scare him into stopping, shot and killed him instead; a blood stain is said to still be visible where it happened.
Working courthouse in downtown Brooksville, open to the public on weekdays through the security screening. It is included in Historic Brooksville's walking tour. Be quiet and respectful when court is in session.
