Hammond Castle is a stone castle on the Gloucester shore built in the late 1920s by the inventor John Hays Hammond Jr. and now run as a museum. Hammond and his wife are buried on the grounds, and staff have long told of an apparition of the inventor, and sometimes his wife, seen in the building. He also collected medieval and Renaissance rooms, a great organ and a pool in the great hall, so the castle sets a dramatic stage for the stories. The museum itself offers candlelight tours that explore Spiritualism and the castle's haunted reputation, with special midnight tours in the fall.
Open as a museum with regular tours and events. The museum runs candlelight Spiritualism and ghost tours, including special midnight tours in October; check its calendar and book ahead.
