Fort Concho, on the Concho River in San Angelo, was a frontier army post from 1867 into the late 1880s and is among the best preserved in the country. Infantry, cavalry and Buffalo Soldier regiments served here, and many of its buildings survive as a museum. Staff, reenactors and visitors have reported a little girl said to have died of illness upstairs in Officers' Quarters No. 1, and unexplained lights in the officers' quarters, stories recounted in Texas ghost lore.
