At the Enders Hotel, guests and staff report an unexplained presence, particularly in the basement; a local event listing calls it one of the most haunted buildings in Idaho, and the Pocatello Paranormal Research team considers it one of the most active places it has investigated, with infrared images taken inside in 2019. The city holds a Halloween "Spirit Search" there. Built in 1917 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the hotel carries a real and well-documented dark chapter: in the hotel bar, a guest named Larry fatally shot his best friend Charlie in what was later described as a drunken misunderstanding, and was sentenced to life at the Idaho State Penitentiary. The hotel's history, including its 1975-1992 ownership by a recovering-alcoholic couple who poured their savings into restoring it, is the subject of grandson Brandon R. Schrand's award-winning memoir, The Enders Hotel. It was renovated in 2022 into a fully operating hotel.
The 1917 hotel closed in late 2024 after its lease with the City of Soda Springs ended, and no reopening is planned. Look at it from the street.
