Dana was one of four Swift River Valley towns disincorporated and flooded around 1938 to 1939 to create Quabbin Reservoir for Boston's water supply, and its town common was above the flood line. The site holds foundations, cellar holes, granite steps, cemetery fence posts and a heavy safe left behind, reached by a roughly 3.6-mile round-trip hike from Gate 40.
Free hiking with limited guided walks run by the DCR; dogs are not allowed in the reservoir watershed.
