The Coal Miners' Museum in Van Lear occupies a building erected in 1913 as the Consolidation Coal Company's office, which later held other businesses and city hall. It was given to the Van Lear Historical Society in 1984 and became a museum of mining life, with tools, a model of the town and a 1950s soda fountain. The museum itself promotes the hauntings: it has hosted a Haunted Museum each October for about twenty years and offers paranormal tours and overnight investigations. Visitors and staff describe footsteps, voices, shadow figures and apparitions. Kentucky Tourism lists it among the state's haunted places.
Museum run by the Van Lear Historical Society in Loretta Lynn's hometown area. Call ahead for hours. Paranormal tours and overnight investigations can be arranged, and the Haunted Museum runs on Friday and Saturday nights in October.
