The Bell Witch is Tennessee's most famous haunting, a legend from the early 1800s in which the family of the farmer John Bell of Adams was tormented by an unseen spirit that spoke, threw things and attacked family members, and that is said to have caused Bell's death in 1820. Folklore says even Andrew Jackson visited and left shaken. The Bell Witch Cave on the farm is open for tours of the cave and a replica cabin, and Black Wolf Paranormal runs public overnight investigations. The story is one of America's best-known pieces of ghost folklore rather than a documented event.
Open seasonally for cave tours with admission; overnight investigations run on select dates. Check the cave's site before visiting.
