Established in 1840 in the historic mill town of Bagdad, this Santa Rosa County cemetery holds roughly 1,000 gravestones beneath old-growth live oaks. Local legend holds that the large round ball tombstone in the southeast corner slowly rotates on its pedestal on dark, moonlit nights, and the three obelisks beside it have long been nicknamed "The Sentinels." Visitors have also reported children's laughter coming from the overgrowth just outside the cemetery with no children in sight. The cemetery is patrolled by the county sheriff's office due to past vandalism, so visit during posted hours only.
Public historic cemetery cared for by the Bagdad Historic Cemetery Association. Visit during daylight and stay on the paths among the old live oaks.
